Long-term career progression and attractive compensation packages are key factors attracting employees to join an organisation.
These were some of the findings in a joint survey conducted by the Singapore National Employers’ Federation and brand strategy firm StrategiCom. The survey was conducted during the recession in 2008 and in March this year while the economy was experiencing a rebound. It found that during the downturn, younger workers in Singapore had to moderate their job expectations, work longer hours, and were concerned about job security. As the economy recovered, work life balance has begun to regain importance amongst the workforce.
According to the survey, employees were more willing to take up contract positions during the recession but are now seeking long-term positions where they are able to develop their careers. A total of 150 respondents comprising of MBA students, undergraduate students in their honours year and working professionals were surveyed in 2010. Some 30 senior management staff were surveyed in 2008.
